Types of Butt Plugs

By Size & Style

Beginner Butt Plugs

Beginner plugs are smaller and designed with slim necks and tapered tips to make first-time anal play more comfortable.

Training Butt Plug Sets

Training sets include multiple plug sizes so users can gradually increase size and comfort over time.

Huge Butt Plugs

Huge butt plugs are designed for experienced users who enjoy a stronger sense of fullness and weight. Most people buying extra-large plugs already own smaller ones and are looking to add something more intense to their collection.

Vibrating Butt Plugs

These plugs include built-in vibration motors to add stimulating pulses and patterns. Many are remote-controlled for partner play.

Jeweled Butt Plugs

Decorative plugs feature crystal or gem bases that add visual appeal while maintaining the same comfortable design.

Tail Butt Plugs

Tail plugs add a decorative tail to a standard plug. They’re popular for cosplay, roleplay, or playful sessions.

Inflatable Butt Plugs

Inflatable butt plugs allow users to adjust the size after insertion. Once the plug is comfortably in place, a small pump gradually increases its size to create a stronger feeling of fullness.

By Material

Silicone Butt Plugs

Silicone butt plugs are the most popular choice because they are soft, flexible, and body-safe. They’re especially beginner-friendly and comfortable for longer wear.

Metal Butt Plugs

Metal plugs are solid, smooth, and heavier than most materials. Stainless steel designs provide firm pressure and gradually warm to body temperature.

Glass Butt Plugs

Glass plugs are firm and extremely smooth, making insertion easy with lubricant. Many people choose them for their clean feel and simple design.

Finding What Works for You

What feels right can change depending on mood, experience, or situation. That’s why a lot of people end up owning more than one butt plug. A small silicone plug for relaxed nights, something heavier for when they want more intensity, maybe a glass or metal option for a different feel.

There’s no need to overthink it. Start with what feels manageable, and let experience guide the rest.

Butt Plugs – Frequently Asked Questions

Are butt plugs safe to use?

Yes, butt plugs are safe when they are designed specifically for anal use. A proper butt plug always has a flared base that prevents the toy from moving too far inside the body. Using plenty of lubricant and starting with a comfortable size can also help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Are butt plugs good for beginners?

Yes, butt plugs are often recommended as one of the best beginner anal toys. Their tapered shape allows for gradual insertion, and they are designed to stay in place rather than move in and out. Many beginners start with a small silicone butt plug to explore anal play comfortably.
What size butt plug should beginners start with?

Beginners should typically start with a small plug under about 1 inch in diameter. A slim neck and tapered tip make insertion easier and more comfortable. Once you become comfortable with smaller sizes, you can gradually explore larger plugs or training sets.
What materials are best for butt plugs?

Common materials include silicone, stainless steel, and glass.

• Silicone – soft, flexible, and beginner-friendly
• Metal – firm, smooth, and heavier for added pressure
• Glass – smooth, solid, and easy to clean

Each material offers a slightly different sensation, so many people enjoy trying different types.
Can you wear a butt plug during sex?

Yes, many people enjoy wearing a butt plug during sex or masturbation. The added pressure and fullness can increase sensation for both partners. Some plugs are also designed for longer wear and comfort.
Do you need lubricant for a butt plug?

Yes, lubricant is strongly recommended for comfortable anal play. Because the body does not produce natural lubrication in this area, using a generous amount of anal-safe lubricant can make insertion smoother and more comfortable.
