Small Butt Plugs for Beginners — Find Your Starting Point
Choosing a first butt plug starts with a few practical details: size, shape, material and controls. At Thorn & Feather, browse compact plugs, vibrating options and starter sets, then compare the features that matter to you. A simple design can be a good place to start; extra settings are a matter of preference.
Check the Measurements
Sizing varies between brands and models, even when products are labelled “small” or “beginner.” Check the widest diameter and insertable length on each product page. Total length can include the base, so it is not always the most useful measurement for comparing models.
Look at the tip, the shape of the body and the material’s firmness as well as the dimensions. Two plugs with the same diameter can differ in shape and flexibility. If you choose a set, review the dimensions of every piece. There is no need to move to a larger size just because it is included.
Compare Materials and Features
- Silicone options: Explore our silicone anal toys and compare each model’s shape and flexibility. Firmness varies by model.
- Vibrating plugs: Check the controls, intensity settings and power source. For rechargeable or app-controlled models, review charging and connection requirements before choosing.
- Starter sets: Browse anal training kits if you prefer several options in one set. Check the size range and exactly what is included.
Lubricant and Care
Choose a plug designed for anal use with a wide, flared base. Use a lubricant compatible with the toy’s material; water-based lubricants are a practical option for silicone toys. Take your time, and stop if you feel pain or discomfort.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use, cleaning and storage. Check those instructions before choosing from our toy cleaners and storage accessories, especially for models with electronic components.
